Police chase near Ithaca ends after suspect runs out of gas

A 21-year-old man from Candor is facing a misdemeanor charge and tickets in several jurisdictions after allegedly leading police on a chase from Route 96 in Candor to Ithaca. Police said they eventually caught up with him on Route 79 after he ran out of gas.

In a news release Thursday, New York State Police said Frank K. Kilanowski, 21, of Candor, was charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and several traffic tickets. State police said at about 2 a.m. Feb. 4, officers observed that Kilanowski's car had an equipment violation and tried to make a traffic stop. But, they said Kilanowski accelerated to a high rate of speed to flee officers. Police said the pursuit was "terminated for safety" once his vehicle entered the Town of Ithaca.
