The New York State Department of Veterans' Services has appointed Navy veteran Mark Sollohub as executive deputy commissioner, moving its outreach special assistant into one of the agency's highest leadership positions.
Sollohub will work with Commissioner Viviana DeCohen, department leaders and staff on agency priorities, operations and services for veterans, service members and military families statewide, according to a department news release Thursday.
In his previous role as special assistant for outreach, Sollohub worked on community partnerships, outreach and connecting veterans and military families with benefits and services. The department said he has deep roots in New York's Capital Region.
DeCohen said Sollohub understands the agency's mission and has earned colleagues' and partners' trust across the state. She cited his work ethic and service to the department in announcing the appointment.
“My focus is simple: support our people, do the work, and make sure we're delivering for Veterans and their families every day,” Sollohub said.
The department connects veterans, service members and military families with benefits, services and support. People seeking assistance can call 888-838-7697 or visit veterans.ny.gov to arrange an in-person or virtual meeting with an accredited veterans benefits adviser.
