The New York Mets will wear a memorial sleeve patch on their home and road uniforms during the 2027 season to honor Jerry Koosman, the winningest left-handed pitcher in franchise history.
The team announced the tribute Thursday, Nov. 5, following Koosman's death at age 83. The patch design will be unveiled later.
Koosman helped pitch Mets to 1969 title
Koosman won both of his starts in the 1969 World Series, taking Game 2 and the championship-clinching Game 5. He allowed four earned runs in 17 2/3 innings for a 2.04 ERA against Baltimore.
During that regular season, he went 17-9 with a 2.28 ERA. He struck out 180 and walked 68 while allowing 61 earned runs in 241 innings.
Koosman signed with the organization in 1964 after being scouted while serving in the Army. He pitched for the Mets from 1967 through 1978 and was an All-Star in 1968 and 1969.
No. 36 was retired in 2021
Koosman's 140 victories are the most by a Mets left-hander. He ranks second in franchise history in starts with 346, complete games with 108, innings pitched with 2,544 2/3 and shutouts with 26.
He also ranks third in strikeouts with 1,799 and sixth in ERA at 3.09, according to the Mets.
The club inducted Koosman into its Hall of Fame in 1989. In 2021, he became the third player to have his number retired by the team when the Mets retired No. 36.
