The Fleming Fire District is seeking candidates for an open seat on its board of fire commissioners, with a filing deadline of Nov. 18 ahead of its December election.
Voters will elect one commissioner to a five-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2027. The election is scheduled for Dec. 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Fleming Fire Company No. 1, 6063 West Lake Road.
Candidates must live within the Fleming Fire District. Anyone interested in running must submit their name to the district secretary by email no later than Nov. 18. The notice says prospective candidates need only state their desire to run for commissioner.
The fire department announced the vacancy in an Oct. 17 Facebook post directing interested residents to contact the district secretary.
To vote, residents must have lived within the fire district for at least 23 days before the election and must be registered with the Cayuga County Board of Elections on or before Nov. 16.
The district’s election notice also says voters will be required to present photo identification.
