A driver was found dead inside a pickup truck in Lyons after a police pursuit Tuesday morning, hours after troopers discovered a woman dead at a residence in Franklin County.
New York State Police said the truck was potentially connected to the investigation into the woman’s death. The circumstances surrounding both deaths remain under investigation.
Troopers responded to a residence on South Woods Road in the town of Moira at approximately 8:45 a.m. Oct. 27 to conduct a criminal investigation. They found a woman dead at the residence.
Information developed during that investigation led police to identify a vehicle potentially connected to the incident.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., Troop E personnel located a red 2009 Chevrolet Silverado matching that description in the town of Lyons.
State Police, assisted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, attempted a traffic stop. Police said the driver failed to comply, prompting a pursuit.
Wayne County deputies deployed tire deflation devices during the pursuit. The truck subsequently left the roadway on State Route 14 in Lyons.
Troopers and deputies ordered the driver to exit, but the driver did not comply, according to State Police. The sheriff’s office then deployed an armored vehicle to approach the truck, where the driver was found dead.
Police did not identify either person or announce a cause of death in the update.
Investigators continued processing the Moira residence and executing search warrants. State Police said additional information would be released as it becomes available.
