An 83-year-old New Jersey hunter who got lost while tracking an injured bear was found in good health in Wawarsing on Oct. 13.
New York State Police requested forest ranger assistance at 6:45 p.m. for the search along Irish Cape Road in Ulster County, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation’s report, released Thursday.
The hunter had been following a bear injured during the previous day’s hunt.
A ranger reached the hunter by phone at 7 p.m. and asked the person to call 911 so rescuers could obtain the phone’s coordinates.
