Forest rangers helped two 18-year-old hikers out of Wilmington Wild Forest after they took a wrong turn following a Whiteface Mountain hike Oct. 11.
One hiker called 911 at 7:16 p.m., warned the phone was about to die and lost the connection, according to the Department of Environmental Conservation’s report, released Thursday.
The caller’s coordinates placed the hikers on the Flume Trail in Wilmington, Essex County.
Two forest rangers found them in the dark without a light source and assisted them to the trailhead. The call was cleared at 8:23 p.m.
