National Guard member Edward Fagan joins Cayuga Community College board as student trustee

Cayuga Community College has welcomed Auburn school district graduate and New York Army National Guard member Edward Fagan as its student trustee.

Fagan, a sophomore pursuing an Associate of Science in Criminal Justice, plans to graduate in the spring and enter law enforcement, according to the college’s announcement.

“As student trustee, I hope to continue being the bridge that my predecessor was between the students and the Board of Trustees,” Fagan said.

He encouraged classmates to ask questions and share their experiences and ideas with him and leaders of the Student Government Organization.

Fagan first enrolled at Cayuga in fall 2021, completing one semester before joining the National Guard. He returned in spring 2026 to finish his degree while continuing his military service.

He said the college’s proximity helped draw him there, along with recommendations from students and alumni. He praised the care professors give students and how easy the college made it to get started.

College President Brian Durant and board Chair Marian Brown welcomed Fagan to the board. Durant pointed to the perspective student trustees bring and Fagan’s commitment to classmates and military service, while Brown said she looked forward to his ideas for strengthening ties between students and the college.

Information about the board is available on Cayuga’s governance website.
