Hidden bathroom recording device leads to RIT student’s arrest

A Rochester Institute of Technology student faces an unlawful surveillance charge after investigators found a hidden recording device in a residence hall bathroom, according to 13WHAM.

Avery Bird, 19, of Gloucester, Massachusetts, was arrested Oct. 20 after deputies identified him as a suspect.

Investigators said the device was installed Sept. 16, two days before RIT Public Safety notified the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Bird pleaded not guilty, was released on his own recognizance with a modified order of protection and is scheduled to appear in Henrietta Town Court on Oct. 27.

RIT said Bird had been removed from its community, while deputies continued working to identify everyone affected.
