Ithaca police arrested a teenager after he reportedly made statements about harming others during a Wednesday appointment at a mental health facility in the city.
Police identified him as Sai Han, 19, of Ithaca.
The investigation involves an allegation of making a terroristic threat, a Class D felony under New York Penal Law 490.20, according to the Ithaca Police Department.
Police said Han referenced an interest in mass shootings during the appointment, prompting an investigation into the credibility of the threats and potential public safety risks.
Officers and investigators located and interviewed Han, and police said additional statements raised concerns about potential violence.
Han was taken to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation while the investigation continued, police said.
Investigators obtained search warrants Wednesday evening for his residence and electronic devices.
The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office assisted Ithaca police in executing the warrants.
Investigators seized multiple electronic devices and storage media for further examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police said Han was taken into custody to await arraignment after Cayuga Medical Center released him.
The Tompkins County District Attorney's Office provided a bail recommendation, according to police.
