A 67-year-old Shortsville man died Tuesday in a two-vehicle crash at Route 245 and Number Nine Road in the Town of Seneca, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office.
Emergency crews responded at about 1 p.m. and found both drivers unconscious and in need of extrication, the sheriff's office said.
William Folts, 67, was driving a 2024 Mazda CX-5 south on Number Nine Road. Michael Dewall, 60, of Stanley, was driving a 2020 Ram pickup west on Route 245.
The sheriff's office said its preliminary investigation found that Folts failed to yield the right of way at the stop sign. Folts was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dewall was flown by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital and was listed in critical condition when the sheriff's office issued its release.
The intersection was closed for about 3½ hours. The sheriff's office accident reconstruction team and criminal investigation division responded, and the crash remained under investigation.
Mercy Ambulance, Stanley-Hall-Gorham Ambulance, Hall, Stanley, West Lake Road and White Springs fire departments, Ontario County EMS and fire coordinators, and Mercy Flight assisted at the scene.
