Driver ticketed after Ontario County crash, one airlifted to Strong Hospital

A two-vehicle crash at a rural Seneca County intersection left one person seriously injured and another facing a traffic citation Thursday afternoon.

Deputies say the crash happened around 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Wabash Road and Kashong Switch Road, where emergency crews responded to reports of a collision with entrapment.

According to the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, a witness reported that Alexander B. Hathaway, 33, of Penn Yan, was traveling eastbound on Kashong Switch Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with a vehicle driven by Jennifer K. Pym, 32, also of Penn Yan.

Pym, who was traveling southbound on Wabash Road, was found unconscious at the scene with severe injuries and was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Strong Memorial Hospital. Hathaway was transported by ambulance to the same hospital with complaints of overall pain.

Authorities said Hathaway was operating a 2022 Ford F-150, while Pym was driving a 2026 Hyundai at the time of the crash. He was issued a uniform traffic ticket for failing to stop at the stop sign.

The roadway was closed for a period of time as deputies reconstructed the crash. Additional assistance was provided by local fire and EMS agencies.
