Ovid No Kings rally draws 85 as Seneca County groups urge early voting

Organizers counted 85 people at Ovid's main intersection Saturday, Oct. 17, for a “No Kings/Vote Early” demonstration. A second rally took place later that day outside the Women's Rights National Historical Park building in Seneca Falls.

Indivisible Seneca NY said local volunteers organized the Ovid event despite chilly, windy conditions. Alissa Ellman, a candidate for New York's 24th Congressional District, also visited. The Seneca Falls demonstration was organized by FLX Roar Feminist Group, according to the Ovid organizers.

The rallies were part of a nationwide protest campaign that organizers linked to concerns about executive power, elections, press freedom and immigration detention. “The principles of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights are the basis not only for the freedoms we enjoy but for our standing in the world,” said Jan Quarles, a longtime Ovid resident and contact for the local group.

The group also urged residents to participate in the Nov. 3 election. The Seneca County Board of Elections lists one early-voting site for all county voters: the Health and Senior Services Building, 2465 Bonadent Drive, Suite 5, in Waterloo. Early voting runs Oct. 24 through Nov. 1.

The county says the site will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the two Saturdays and Sundays; noon to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 26-27; and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 28-30. Oct. 24 is also the last day to register for the general election, according to the board.
