Gov. Kathy Hochul's decision to delay a state climate-law deadline has barely figured in her reelection pitch, even as Republican Bruce Blakeman blames her for rising utility bills, according to POLITICO.
Hochul said she postponed the compliance target to avoid additional household costs but has emphasized rebates and federal policies on the campaign trail.
Blakeman has promised to cut utility bills in half without explaining how he would do it.
A state analysis cited by POLITICO estimates climate-law programs account for roughly 5% to 10% of current residential electric bills.
Fuel prices and spending to replace aging utility infrastructure also affect those bills.
