A Cayuga County Jail inmate was charged with promoting prison contraband after deputies found him with a functional lighter last month, according to the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies found the lighter with Danieal Farrar, 33, on Sept. 30, Sheriff Brian Schenck said.
Farrar was charged Thursday with second-degree promoting prison contraband, a class A misdemeanor.
Lighters are prohibited at the jail because they pose a safety and security risk, the sheriff's office said.
Farrar remains in sheriff's custody on unrelated charges.
Anyone with information about the incident can call the sheriff's office at 315-253-1222 or submit a tip through the county's SaferWatch app.
