Child & Family Resources marks 50 years with Geneva open house

Child & Family Resources marked its 50th anniversary and its return to Geneva with an Oct. 1 open house at its new hub on Pre-Emption Road. The celebration brought staff, board members and community partners together at 821 Pre-Emption Road, Suite 300, according to the Finger Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce.

The organization began in 1975 as a parent-cooperative preschool in Rushville, founded by local parents under the early leadership of Nancy Stanton Multer. It now serves families in Penn Yan, Canandaigua and Geneva, with work focused on children's educational, emotional and social needs.

Executive Director Julie Champion reviewed the organization's history and recognized current and former staff at the gathering. She also dedicated a conference room in the new Geneva hub to Multer, linking the organization's current space to its beginnings.

The nonprofit operated as the Child Development Center for its first two decades and adopted the name Child & Family Resources in 2000. Its services have grown beyond the original preschool as it has worked with families across the Finger Lakes, including in rural communities where resources can be limited.

Chamber President Miranda Odell noted a partnership with the organization dating to 2007 and recognized the people who provide family services in the region. The chamber hosted the anniversary event as one of its member milestone celebrations.

Guests toured the renovated space, met staff and gathered for a group photograph outside the building. The event also included refreshments and raffle drawings.

The open house followed an earlier announcement that Child & Family Resources was returning to a permanent Geneva location. The Oct. 1 gathering marked the completed move and the organization's anniversary, rather than a future event.
