Adults can receive a free measles, mumps and rubella vaccine at a drive-thru clinic Oct. 24 in Penn Yan.
Yates County Public Health announced the clinic for people 18 and older from 10 a.m. to noon at the county Highway Department, 939 Route 14A.
Participants should enter from Havens Corners Road, remain in their vehicles and wear short sleeves. The county's flyer asks participants to leave pets at home.
Appointments are required individually, even when recipients travel in the same car. The county directs residents to its online registration form; questions or help scheduling are available at 315-536-5160.
The announcement encourages adults who have not received MMR, lack a vaccination record or are uncertain about their measles protection to discuss their history with a health care provider or county Public Health. The clinic's age requirement does not establish that vaccination is appropriate for every adult.
The county said it organized the clinic in response to the ongoing New York measles outbreak and to improve vaccine access.
On its measles information page, Public Health advises anyone who thinks they may have measles or has been exposed to stay home and call a health care provider or the county promptly, rather than arriving without calling ahead.
