The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating human remains found Wednesday evening in woods between Lake Ontario and Lake Road in the hamlet of Pultneyville.
Deputies went to the area after a 911 caller reported finding a human skull north of an apple orchard, according to a sheriff's office release issued Thursday.
Sheriff's personnel found additional skeletal remains nearby.
A search Thursday found nothing further, the office said.
New York State Police and the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office assisted at the scene.
The sheriff's office asks anyone with information to call 315-946-5800.
