Ithaca police have arrested a New York City man on a murder charge in the Sept. 24 fatal stabbing of Lasalle Hargrove at the Ithaca Arthaus apartment building.
Shawn Taylor, 45, was charged with second-degree murder and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to an Ithaca Police Department update. Police said the U.S. Marshals Task Force and New York State Police assisted with the arrest.
Taylor was arraigned before Ithaca City Court Judge Seth Peacock and sent to the Tompkins County Jail without bail, police said. The department did not give an arrest date or describe how investigators identified him.
Officers responded to 130 Cherry St. about 6 p.m. Sept. 24 for a reported stabbing. They provided emergency medical care alongside Bangs Ambulance and the Ithaca Fire Department before Hargrove, 35, of Ithaca, was taken to a medical facility, where he died.
Police initially described the incident as isolated and said they had no indication of an ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains open, and police are asking anyone with information to contact the department.
