Cayuga County schedules community workshops as work continues on new strategic plan

Cayuga County residents will have three opportunities this fall to weigh in on a new countywide strategic plan intended to guide future goals, priorities and development strategies.

The county will hold community visioning workshops Sept. 29 in Locke, Sept. 30 in Auburn and Oct. 1 in Cato. Each session will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and cover the same material, allowing residents to attend whichever location is most convenient.

County officials said the workshops will begin with a brief presentation on the strategic planning process before moving into interactive stations where participants can offer ideas and feedback.

Residents will also be able to review maps, speak with project team members and take part in trivia and prize opportunities. Light refreshments will be provided.

The southern workshop will be held Sept. 29 at the Locke Fire Hall, 1060 Route 38 in Locke.

The central workshop will follow Sept. 30 at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, 1879 W. Genesee Street Road in Auburn.

The northern workshop is scheduled for Oct. 1 at the Ira Fire Hall, 12591 Route 176 in Cato.

County officials said public input will be used to help shape the vision, goals and strategies included in the final plan and to make sure it reflects the needs of communities across Cayuga County.

The project is being developed by the Cayuga County Department of Planning and Economic Development with funding from the New York State Department of State through the Environmental Protection Fund.
