Driver killed after SUV crashes into tree in Locke

A 65-year-old driver was killed Sunday evening when his SUV left Route 38 and struck a tree in the town of Locke, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office said.

Lester B. Doolittle, the vehicle’s only occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which was reported at about 7:10 p.m. on Sunday just south of Tucker Hill Road.

A preliminary investigation found Doolittle’s gray Toyota RAV4 was traveling north when it crossed the centerline, left the west shoulder and struck the tree, according to the sheriff’s office.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by New York State Police, Cayuga County 911, Four Town Ambulance, the Locke Fire Department and the Cayuga County Coroner’s Office.
