A Locke man faces two felony charges after deputies said he raised a pocketknife at a sheriff's deputy and a state trooper during a domestic violence call Friday.
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office identified him as Thomas Purdy, 49, and said deputies responded to a Town of Locke address around noon Oct. 2.
According to Sheriff Brian Schenck's arrest release, a deputy had arranged for a person involved in the incident to speak with a victim advocate by phone. Purdy became increasingly threatening, and the deputy approached him in an attempt to calm him down, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies said Purdy raised a pocketknife toward the deputy and a trooper who was assisting at the scene. He complied with officers' verbal commands and was arrested around 1:18 p.m., according to the release.
Purdy was charged with menacing a police officer and third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, both Class D felonies. He was taken to the Public Safety Building for processing and then to Cayuga County Jail for centralized arraignment.
The sheriff's office said Purdy was held at the jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or a $5,000 bond. Anyone with information about the incident can call the sheriff's office at 315-253-1222.
