A Geneva man was charged with third-degree rape following an investigation by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Ahmelle J. Whitfield, 21, was taken into custody at about 3:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at an apartment on Sunlight Lane in Geneva, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators alleged Whitfield had sexual contact with a 16-year-old on Sept. 14.
Whitfield was transported to the Ontario County Jail, where he was processed and held pending centralized arraignment later that evening.
The arrest comes about two years after Whitfield was charged in a separate case involving an alleged group assault in Geneva. Geneva police arrested Whitfield, then 19, on July 31, 2024, and charged him with gang assault in connection with an incident on Union Street on June 1 of that year.
Police said in the 2024 case that a victim suffered significant head trauma and was taken to Geneva General Hospital following the assault.
Authorities described that incident as isolated and involving people who knew one another.
The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division handled the latest investigation. The agency did not release additional information about the circumstances of the alleged sexual offense.
