Two people were injured when a pickup rear-ended an SUV in Throop, and Cayuga County deputies later charged the pickup's 19-year-old driver with drunken driving, assault and two alcohol thefts.
The sheriff's office said deputies were called to the area of State Street Road and Robinson Road at about 2:45 p.m. August 29, where a Ram pickup traveling south had struck a Honda CR-V and pushed it off the road into a parked car.
Investigators alleged that the pickup driver, Kameron A. Buchanan of Sennett, was intoxicated. Two people in the CR-V were injured; the release did not describe their conditions.
Deputies arrested Buchanan at about 3:29 p.m. and charged him with first-offense driving while intoxicated, two counts of third-degree assault and other traffic violations.
Because Buchanan was 19, the sheriff's office investigated how he obtained alcohol and alleged he had stolen it from two businesses in the village of Weedsport. Deputies later charged him with two counts of petit larceny.
Buchanan was released after centralized arraignment with a Throop Town Court date listed for September 8. The separate larceny appearance tickets were returnable to Weedsport Village Court at 7 p.m. September 14, according to the sheriff's office.
