Talks with two companies proposing solutions for Ontario County’s waste raised questions as the county prepares to close its landfill in the town of Seneca by Dec. 31, 2028, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
Officials are weighing how the proposals would affect recycling, facility ownership and finances, including a possible ordinance governing the flow of recyclable material.
The Board of Supervisors is scheduled to discuss the proposals Sept. 17.
A separate organics management plan is being drafted as county officials estimate food waste and other organic material make up 35% of the county’s solid waste.
Staff plan surveys, site visits, virtual meetings and a public meeting late this fall to gather input from stakeholders, including schools.
