Clyde man charged after alleged theft at Tyre Byrne Dairy

A Clyde man was charged with petit larceny after deputies said he took merchandise from a Byrne Dairy store in the town of Tyre without paying.

The Seneca County Sheriff's Office said deputies arrested Kenneth L. Bates, 78, around 1:19 p.m. Friday, September 11.

Deputies said Bates was seen taking items from store shelves and putting them in his pockets.

Surveillance footage showed him passing the store's points of sale without attempting to pay, according to the sheriff's office.

Bates was charged with petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor, and taken to the Seneca County Law Enforcement Center for processing.

He was released with an appearance ticket and is due in court at a later date, which the sheriff's office did not specify.
