Finger Lakes Community College volleyball made a strong impression in its home debut, sweeping both opponents Tuesday as the Lakers defeated Jefferson Community College and Fulton-Montgomery Community College in straight sets.
The Lakers opened the day against Jefferson and controlled the match from the start. Jessie Powers paced the attack with 11 kills and added five digs, while Allyson St. Germain contributed 10 kills and eight digs on 37 attempts.
Ava Van Antwerp was particularly efficient at the net, recording eight kills on 15 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage. She also made an impact defensively with two solo blocks and another block assist.
Olivia Scheuer directed the offense with 27 assists while contributing nine digs. Keira Dickens added seven digs and two service aces as the Lakers completed the opening sweep.
FLCC carried that momentum into its second match against Fulton-Montgomery, once again finishing the day without dropping a set.
Powers led the way again, producing 10 kills on just 16 attempts while hitting .500. She also delivered six service aces and seven digs. Julia Geitner added six kills while hitting .500 and recorded two aces.
St. Germain finished with seven kills and six digs, while Scheuer tallied 21 assists, two kills and two aces in the second match.
Powers ended the day with 21 kills, seven aces and 12 digs across the two victories. St. Germain totaled 17 kills and 14 digs, while Scheuer finished with 48 assists.
The Lakers will return home Saturday, September 12, for another two-match pod against Jamestown Community College and Erie Community College.
