A Rochester man has been charged with stealing money tied to employee-funded dental benefits for two Wayne County school districts as part of an investigation that began last year, according to New York State Police.
Zachary Weber, 49, of Barrington Street in Rochester, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 2, and charged with two counts of second-degree grand larceny in Wayne County. State Police investigators said the case involves money from both the Sodus and North Rose school districts.
The investigation has involved both Monroe and Wayne counties and centers on Health Economics Partners, a company owned by Weber that had been responsible for handling dental benefits funded by school district employees.
Providers and staffing agencies reported that payments eventually stopped arriving and that some checks bounced.
Separate from the criminal charges, a judge awarded the Sodus School District $725,000 and the North Rose Wolcott district nearly $196,000 in judgments against Health Economics Partners and Weber.
Weber was released on his own recognizance in both criminal cases.
He is scheduled to appear in Sodus Town Court on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and Rose Town Court on Sept. 14.
State Police described the case as an ongoing investigation.
