More than 100,000 people packed the New York State Fair on Sunday, pushing attendance for the 2026 fair to nearly 900,000 as the 13-day run heads into its Labor Day finale.
Fair officials reported 100,237 people entered the fairgrounds Sunday, the second day this year to top 100,000. Through 12 days, 892,402 people have attended — 44,639 more than at the same point last year, an increase of about 5.3%.
Sunday’s crowd was slightly smaller than the 104,893 people who attended the comparable day in 2025 and remained below the Day 12 record of 119,726 set in 1985. Still, it capped a year in which several particularly strong days have put the fair on pace to comfortably surpass last year’s overall attendance.
The 2025 fair finished with 925,989 visitors. That means the 2026 fair needs just 33,587 visitors Monday to finish ahead of last year’s total. By comparison, 78,226 people attended the final day in 2025.
Attendance started strong, then became uneven
This year’s attendance advantage was built largely during the opening weekend.
The fair drew 66,898 people on opening day Aug. 26, more than double the 32,736 who attended the corresponding day last year. Attendance reached 114,644 on Saturday, Aug. 29 — the largest crowd of the 2026 fair so far — compared with 88,060 on the same day in 2025.
Another 94,059 people attended Sunday, Aug. 30, up from 60,028 last year. Those two weekend days alone brought nearly 209,000 people through the gates.
Attendance became more uneven after the opening weekend. The fair drew 53,502 on Aug. 31 and 54,270 on Sept. 1 before falling to a season-low 29,771 on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Attendance rebounded to 61,858 Thursday and 86,564 Friday.
Saturday brought another large crowd, with 97,962 visitors, before Sunday’s total climbed back above the 100,000 mark.
The fair remains well short of its all-time annual attendance record of 1,329,275, set in 2019. But after entering the final day with nearly 892,500 visitors, the more immediate benchmark is last year’s total — a mark that could be surpassed relatively early Monday if typical Labor Day attendance materializes.
What’s happening on the final day
The final day brings a full Labor Day schedule beginning in the morning and continuing through closing-night fireworks.
A Labor Day Parade and Rally is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the Exposition Center. The morning schedule also includes Iroquois social dancing at the Haudenosaunee Village, a rooster crowing championship at the Poultry Building, birds of prey at the State Park at the Fair and the first of three installments of the Fast and the Furriest Corgi Races at the Exposition Center.
The day’s concert schedule starts at noon with Yacht Rock Gold Experience at Chevy Court. Voyage takes the Chevy Court stage at 4 p.m., while Wyclef Jean headlines the final Suburban Park concert of the fair at 6 p.m.
Other activities throughout Monday include the New York State Fair Olympics, Circus Hollywood, the Canine Stars Stunt Dog Show, Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, Hollywood Racing Pigs, New York State Police demonstrations, agricultural exhibits and demonstrations, live music and programming at the Latino Village, Haudenosaunee Village and Pan-African Village.
The Best of the Fair Food Awards winners are also scheduled to be announced at 10 a.m. at Harvey’s Garden at the Empire Room. A wheelchair basketball tournament runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the NY 529 College Savings Sports Activity Center.
The 2026 fair will officially wind down Monday night, with closing-night fireworks scheduled over the fairgrounds at 8 p.m. Other events scheduled at that hour include the Blacklites Band at Latino Village and Ben & Sarah at Harvey’s Garden at the Empire Room.
Once the gates close, Monday’s attendance will determine where the 2026 fair lands historically. The fair is already running ahead of 2025 through the first 12 days, and even a final-day crowd substantially smaller than last year’s would be enough to produce a year-over-year attendance increase.
