Josh Olschewske, a retired New York State Police investigator and longtime Tyre resident, has announced his candidacy for Tyre town judge.
Olschewske said he has lived in the town for more than 30 years with his wife, Amy, and that the couple chose to raise their family there because of its peaceful, safe and quiet agricultural setting.
His campaign announcement points to 21 years with the state police as the central experience behind his run. Olschewske served in uniform patrol and later as an investigator with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
After retiring from the state police, Olschewske started a family-owned landscaping company headquartered in Tyre.
Olschewske said the town has long been important to his family and that he wants to help keep it safe as the community grows.
“Tyre has always been a special place for my family and I,” Olschewske said in the announcement. “Being able to play a part in keeping it a safe place for our residents is very important to me especially with the growth the Town has undergone recently.”
He said people appearing in local criminal court should have their cases heard fairly and impartially. Olschewske said his law enforcement background and the time he spent testifying and participating in court proceedings would provide a foundation for serving as judge if elected.
