Keuka College formally opened its 2026-27 academic year Aug. 21 with an academic convocation for more than 200 new students in Norton Chapel.
The ceremony concluded several days of orientation for the Class of 2030 and transfer students and featured a keynote from biology professor Gylla MacGregor, the college’s 2026 Professor of the Year.
Board of Trustees Chair Twyla J. Cummings encouraged students to challenge themselves academically, ask questions and take part in campus life. Student Senate President Gabriella Hall urged them to attend class, join discussions, seek help and try new activities.
President Amy Storey traced the college’s history from its 1890 founding through the creation of its Field Period experiential-learning program and asked students to help shape its next chapter.
MacGregor told students to remain engaged even on ordinary days and to treat mistakes as part of learning. College Chaplain Eric Detar closed the ceremony with a call for commitment, compassion and understanding.
