The Watkins Glen Elks Lodge 1546 awarded $11,000 in Elks National Foundation grants Thursday to seven local organizations serving health, youth, veterans and other community needs, according to the Watkins Glen Elks Lodge.
Schuyler Health Foundation received the largest grant at $3,000 for mobility equipment, while the Justice Center of the Southern Tier received $2,000 to help provide personal necessities for crime victims.
Schuyler County Youth Football and Camp Star each received $1,500, with the funding directed toward safety equipment for young athletes and a new tent for children with disabilities attending the camp.
Gorges Givers, St. Mary’s of the Lake Community Table and Schuyler Veterans each received $1,000 for cancer support, weekly community meals and needs associated with the Southern Tier Honor Flight program.
The lodge said it has contributed $40,500 to community organizations over the past six years through the grant program and proceeds from its chicken barbecue fundraisers.
