Lake Country Players will stage the musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress” at Watkins Glen High School for four performances Nov. 5-8, with tickets sold at the door.
Evening shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 5-7, followed by a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday, Nov. 8, according to a release from the Watkins Glen theater group. All four performances will be in the high school auditorium.
The musical retells “The Princess and the Pea” through Princess Winnifred, Prince Dauntless and his mother, Queen Aggravain. Lake Country Players describes the production as a comedy built around the princess’s arrival in a kingdom where the queen has her own plans for the prince.
Anna-Beth Wheaton and Tania Mazariego will share the role of Princess Winnifred. Nicole Laszlo and Pam Kelly will share the role of Queen Aggravain, the group said. Mark Sardo will play King Sextimus the Silent, and Brendon Wendling will play Prince Dauntless the Drab. The production also includes supporting actors and an ensemble.
Melissa Norton is directing the show, with Kim Laursen serving as music director. The release does not specify which performances will feature each actor in the shared roles, so patrons seeking a particular cast member should not assume a nightly assignment.
Tickets cost $15 for adults, $12 for seniors age 62 and older, and $10 for students. Children younger than 5 are admitted free. The group said ticket sales will begin at the auditorium 45 minutes before each performance.
The box office will accept cash or checks only; the release does not list an advance-sale option. For the three evening shows, the stated sales window would begin at 6:15 p.m. For the Sunday matinee, it would begin at 1:15 p.m.
The run begins Thursday, Nov. 5, and closes with the Sunday, Nov. 8, matinee at Watkins Glen High School. Attendees should plan to buy their tickets at the door and bring one of the accepted payment methods.
