Auburn City Council to discuss energy suppliers, license plate readers and budget tonight

Auburn City Council will meet tonight for a business session featuring discussions on the city’s electric and gas supply providers, automated license plate readers and a review of the recently adopted 2026-27 budget.

The meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Memorial City Hall. The agenda includes no listed ordinances, local laws or resolutions, with most of the substantive discussion expected to come through staff and vendor presentations.

The first presentation will focus on the city’s electric and gas supply providers and will be led by NextEra Advisors LLC.

Council members are also scheduled to discuss automated license plate readers, or ALPRs, technology that uses cameras to capture and record license plate information for law enforcement or public safety purposes. The agenda does not specify whether council will consider a particular vendor, deployment plan or policy framework during the discussion.

A third presentation will revisit the city’s 2026-27 budget. City Manager Jenny Haines and Comptroller Mary Beth Leeson are expected to lead the budget debrief and discussion.

The session will also include the standard public comment period, City Manager’s report, reports from members of council and any other business brought forward by council members.

The agenda lists no specific SEQR resolutions, ordinances, local laws, resolutions or tabled items for action tonight.

Members of the public can attend the meeting in person at Memorial City Hall. The city also plans to livestream the meeting online.
