The Salvation Army of Geneva will hold its ninth annual golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 8, at Big Oak Golf Course to help fund camp scholarships and other youth programs. Money raised will help Geneva children attend Long Point Camp regardless of their families' financial circumstances.
The fundraiser follows a summer in which dozens of local children attended the camp, taking part in swimming, hiking, kayaking, music, archery, arts and crafts and other activities. This year's session for Geneva children ended earlier than expected because of the weather, according to the organization.
Long Point Camp and Conference Center operates year-round on 138 acres along the western shore of Seneca Lake near Penn Yan. Support from last year's golf tournament helped provide scholarships for Geneva campers.
Captain Manuel Sulca of The Salvation Army of Geneva said many children returned excited about attending the organization's upcoming free music and arts programs in Geneva and going back to camp next summer.
