A new documentary featuring Butler residents’ successful opposition to a proposed sewage sludge-composting facility will be screened Wednesday at the Ohmann Theatre in Lyons, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
“The Sludge War,” created by filmmaker Galassia Grassetto, examines the use of sewage sludge compost and includes Butler’s 2020 campaign against the project.
Residents organized Concerned Citizens of Butler and Beyond and packed a Town Board meeting before the proposal from Tully Environmental and Riccelli Enterprises was abandoned.
The free Aug. 5 event begins with a red-carpet welcome at 5 p.m., followed by the 80-minute film at 6 p.m. and a question-and-answer session.
Grassetto and Butler Town Supervisor Tommy Mettler, who helped lead the local opposition, are expected to participate in the discussion.
