A wrongful death claim seeking to hold New York liable for Adam Lafferty’s 2024 killing at Five Points Correctional Facility is moving through the state Court of Claims, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The lawsuit alleges prison staff ignored Lafferty’s repeated requests for protection and knowingly placed him in danger before his cellmate strangled him Dec. 23, 2024.
Kevin Farley pleaded guilty Jan. 13, 2026, to two counts of first-degree murder and is serving 25 years to life consecutively with a prior murder sentence.
The state has denied the allegations, argued correction officers acted within their duties and asked for the case to be dismissed.
Judge Raymond Rivera set Sept. 6, 2026, as the date for the case to be ready for trial, with depositions required beforehand.
