A Montour man faces a felony assault charge after New York State Police said he intentionally struck a construction flagger with his car and fled an active work zone in Horseheads.
Ryan R. Sochia, 20, was arrested July 19 following an investigation into the July 14 incident on Ridge Road.
Police said Sochia approached the construction zone in a yellow and blue 1999 Ford Mustang, revved the engine and antagonized a flagger who was holding a stop sign and directing traffic.
Investigators said Sochia then intentionally struck the flagger with the vehicle before leaving the scene.
The flagger was taken to a local hospital with bruising and other injuries that were not considered life-threatening. She was later released.
Troopers located Sochia at his County Road 14 residence in the town of Montour five days after the incident and took him into custody.
He was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of a personal injury crash and multiple traffic violations.
Sochia was arraigned in Horseheads Town Court and released after posting $1,080 bail.
