Montour Falls gets up to 7K to identify lead water service lines

Montour Falls has been awarded $827,000 to inventory lead service lines in its drinking-water system, according to the New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation's 2026 grant awards.

The Village Board unanimously authorized the application in July. Its July 16 meeting minutes describe an inventory project to determine the materials of water service lines whose composition is unknown.

The award is through New York's Water Infrastructure Improvement Act program, known as WIIA. It will support identifying lead service lines connected to the village water system, a step toward planning their removal.

The award is part of a statewide grant round providing nearly $500 million for 106 drinking-water and sewer projects, according to EFC.

ā€œSafe drinking water is fundamental, and this funding lets us find every lead service line in our system so we can plan to get them out for good,ā€ Mayor James Ryan said in the release quoted by WETM.

July vote set up the inventory application

The board resolution sought 100% grant funding through the state's lead service line inventory program. Trustees Jeffrey Confer, Jody Saunders, Philip Smith and Mallorie Tong voted in favor, with no opposing votes recorded.

The resolution authorized the mayor or an approved representative to sign the application and supporting documents and, if the village received an award, execute the grant agreement and related documents.

Village officials recorded that the Environmental Facilities Corporation's 2026 inventory program did not require a state environmental review or a bond resolution because the project would be entirely grant-funded and would not involve issuing debt.
