Trumansburg Family Medicine will join Cayuga Health on Aug. 3 in a move intended to preserve local primary care and give the practice long-term operational support.
The practice will continue serving patients at its two existing offices, which will operate as Cayuga Primary Care – Trumansburg and Cayuga Primary Care – East Hill Plaza, Cayuga Health announced Monday.
Current providers will remain in place, and patients will continue visiting the same office locations. Existing phone and fax numbers will also remain unchanged.
Patient medical records will become part of Cayuga Health's health information system. Cayuga Health said the change is intended to improve coordination across the organization while maintaining continuity of care.
The partnership came at the request of Trumansburg Family Medicine's leadership, according to the release. The practice sought a long-term solution that would preserve community-based primary care while adding operational support, resources and care coordination.
Jeffrey Penoyer, chief operating officer of Cayuga Health and deputy chief operating officer of Centralus Health, said the arrangement would help keep care close to home and support the practice's long-term success.
Terri Heederks, a physician and partner at Trumansburg Family Medicine, said the practice approached Cayuga Health to provide greater stability and predictability. She said the transition would allow the practice to continue its work in Trumansburg and at East Hill.
Both offices will be closed Monday, Aug. 3, to complete the transition and will reopen Tuesday, Aug. 4, under their new names. Patients with questions may call the office at 607-387-5707.
