Hornell adding new school-area surveillance camera

Hornell police will add a surveillance camera near Hornell High School using a $10,000 Steuben County grant, according to the Hornell Tribune. The camera will be placed at Seneca and State streets, a busy area for vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

City officials said the equipment will include a high-resolution pan-tilt-zoom camera with a 360-degree view.

The camera will cover the east and south sides of the school, portions of nearby streets, about 10 businesses and part of a residential neighborhood.

Live video can be viewed from dispatch center monitors at police headquarters.

Hornell officials said the new camera expands a community camera program that went live with upgraded equipment in late 2025.
