A juvenile was charged after Ithaca police broke up a fight on the Commons that left an officer with minor injuries Wednesday afternoon, according to the Ithaca Police Department.
Police said officers were called at about 2:40 p.m. July 8 to the 100 block of West State Street for a report of several people fighting.
When officers arrived, they found two people actively involved in a physical dispute. Police said several others were nearby watching, yelling and further inciting the disturbance.
Officers intervened and separated the people involved. While police worked to bring the disturbance under control, one officer sustained minor injuries from a subject who was actively fighting, according to the department.
Police identified a juvenile as the provoking party in the dispute. The juvenile was charged with second-degree obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, both class A misdemeanors.
Police said no additional information about the juvenile would be released because of the person's age.
People charged by police are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
