The Ontario County Sheriff's Office has welcomed two new road patrol deputies after a badge pinning ceremony that marked their move into field training.
Deputies Austin Cayward and Alexandria Moody received their agency badges before beginning the Sheriff's Office Field Training Officer Program, the final phase of training before deputies complete the academy program.
The ceremony recognized Cayward and Moody after they completed the academic portion of their law enforcement training through the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy. The event included family members, fellow deputies, agency leadership and academy staff, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff David Cirencione said earning the opportunity to wear the badge reflects months of dedication, work and commitment. He said Cayward and Moody have shown the qualities the office looks for in deputies and will now receive hands-on experience and mentorship as they prepare to serve Ontario County residents.
During field training, each deputy will be paired with experienced road patrol deputies while responding to calls for service, conducting investigations, enforcing traffic laws and interacting with the public. The program is designed to connect classroom instruction with real-world law enforcement work.
The Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy's 2026 class includes recruits from the Livingston, Ontario, Seneca, Wayne and Yates county sheriff's offices. The Sheriff's Office said the regional class reflects a partnership among local agencies training new law enforcement officers.
