The Livingston County Historian’s Office is searching for descendants of Revolutionary War veterans who lived in Livingston County as part of local efforts to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary.
County officials announced this week that descendants of qualifying veterans will be invited to participate in a special recognition event planned for this fall. Participants will receive a commemorative token and help highlight the county’s connections to the nation’s founding generation.
To be considered, individuals must be descended from a verifiable Revolutionary War veteran who lived in Livingston County. Applicants must also have documented their family lineage, be willing to make a good-faith effort to do so, or be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution or Sons of the American Revolution.
The Livingston County Historian’s Office said it is available to assist residents who need help researching potential family ties to Revolutionary War ancestors.
Residents interested in participating have until Sept. 30 to contact the Historian’s Office and submit their contact and lineage information. Officials said the effort will not only support the upcoming recognition event, but also help expand local historical records about veterans who settled in Livingston County after the war.
Livingston County, founded in 1821, is home to more than 61,000 residents across 17 towns in the Finger Lakes region.
