Auburn is kicking off its first comprehensive plan update in more than 15 years, and city officials want residents to help shape what the next decade of growth and development looks like.
The city announced this week that its first public workshop for the Smart Growth Comprehensive Plan will take place June 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Auburn Public Theater on Exchange Street. The event marks the start of a community engagement process that will guide land use, development and public investment decisions across the city.
Officials say the plan will establish a long-term vision for Auburn while identifying policy priorities, goals and action steps designed to strengthen neighborhoods, support economic development and improve quality of life. The effort is funded through New York’s Smart Growth Community Planning Grant Program.
The June 29 workshop will begin with a brief presentation before transitioning into an open-house format featuring interactive stations where residents can provide feedback on key planning topics. Families are encouraged to attend, and organizers say a children’s activity station and light refreshments will be available.
Mayor James Giannettino said the planning process will be community-driven and focused on creating a shared vision for Auburn’s future. Registration is encouraged but not required, and city officials say residents, business owners and other stakeholders are invited to participate.
