Children in South Bristol have a new place to play after the town completed a major renovation of its community playground, expanding its appeal to children up to 12 years old.
Town officials recently announced the completion of the project, which included a comprehensive overhaul designed to create a safer, more attractive and more enjoyable recreational space for local families.
The renovation was led by Town Councilperson Chris Abraham and the town’s Buildings and Grounds Committee, which oversaw a series of practical and aesthetic improvements throughout the playground. Town officials said the work has helped transform the facility and provide a renewed gathering place for residents.
Highway Superintendent Jim Wight also played a key role in the project, according to the town. His department removed the existing playground equipment and replaced mulch retention boards as part of the upgrade effort.
Officials also credited former Town Councilperson Jim Strickland for helping move the project forward. The town said Strickland championed the renovation and worked to secure its inclusion in the municipal budget, helping make the improvements possible.
The work is not finished. Town leaders said plans are already underway to improve signage and landscaping around the playground to further enhance the experience for visitors.
An official dedication ceremony is scheduled for Aug. 8. The event will coincide with the birthday of Gamiliel Wilder, founder of South Bristol, and is intended to celebrate both the town’s history and the newly renovated community asset.
