South Bristol will hold a community forum July 20 to discuss how residents and the town can prepare for Ontario County's planned landfill closure in 2028.
The event begins at 7 p.m. at South Bristol Town Hall, 6500 West Gannett Hill Road. Residents will be able to ask questions, share ideas and help shape the town's waste-reduction and environmental plans.
The discussion will cover stronger resident-only access controls at the town transfer station, expanded composting and ways to improve household recycling. Officials will also discuss hazardous-waste reduction and textile donation education.
Scheduled speakers include Ontario County Sustainability Director Carla Jordan, County Administrator Chris DeBolt and South Bristol Town Clerk Judy Voss. Councilwoman Jamie Hall and Community Engagement Committee member Lenore Friend will co-moderate.
The forum is part of the South Bristol Community Engagement Committee's public-engagement series and follows town board presentations on recycling and the landfill closure.
The town recently sent educational mailers and recycling magnets to households with support from an Ontario County Department of Sustainability grant.
