Six graduating high school seniors from across the Finger Lakes have received scholarships from the Thompson Health Guild as they prepare to pursue careers in health care.
The scholarships, each worth $2,000, were presented during the Guild’s annual dinner May 28 at Ferris Hills at West Lake in Canandaigua. Recipients must complete their first semester of college and continue pursuing a health-related field.
This year’s scholarship recipients are Julie Chen of Midlakes High School, who plans to study nursing at St. John Fisher University; Mya Henry of Canandaigua Academy, who will study public health and psychological sciences at Hobart and William Smith Colleges; and Natalie Oo of Canandaigua Academy, who plans to major in pharmacy at the University at Buffalo.

Also receiving scholarships were Maya Stevenson of Midlakes High School, who plans to study physical therapy at Nazareth University; Abel Yeshanew of Geneva High School, who will pursue radiologic technology at Monroe Community College; and Haley Young of Mynderse Academy, who plans to major in physician assistant studies at Le Moyne College.
The Thompson Health Guild serves as the auxiliary organization for UR Medicine Thompson Health, raising money to support equipment purchases, capital projects and programs that benefit patients, residents, staff and community members. Scholarship awards have become one of the Guild’s longstanding annual traditions.
