Children in Lyons now have a new place to play after a years-long effort transformed a local sports complex with a $500,000 playground and major ballfield upgrades, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The project at the newly named Lyons Community Center Canalside Sports Complex includes accessible playground equipment, a weather-resistant turf surface, upgraded dugouts, improved lighting and family-style restrooms. Organizers completed the work in just 28 days this spring ahead of youth baseball opening day.
The effort grew from concerns about the lack of public playgrounds available outside school hours. Project leaders say the complex is open to families throughout the region, and additional athletic field improvements are already being planned on nearby land.
