Penn Yan Farmers’ Market marks 50 years with move and vendor recruitment effort

The Penn Yan Farmers’ Market is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a return to a former location and a push to attract new vendors ahead of the summer season.

The market, formally known as the Yates County Cooperative Farm and Craft Market, will relocate to the Yates County Office Building parking lot at 417 Liberty St. for its 2026 season. Organizers say the site offers greater visibility, additional space and improved parking for shoppers.

The producer-only market, which was incorporated in 1976, features products grown or made in Yates County or neighboring counties. Vendors offer produce, plants, baked goods, crafts and other locally made items. The market also makes space available for nonprofits serving Yates County residents when room permits.

The new location is a return to a site the market used during the 1990s. Customers will be able to access the market from either Main Street through the county parking lots near the library or from Liberty Street through the county office building entrance. Organizers said signs will be posted to direct visitors.

The market opens for the season June 20 and will continue its traditional Saturday schedule with updated hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Organizers are seeking additional vendors and say the expanded space creates opportunities for new businesses and producers looking to reach customers through direct sales.
